Interesting twist
Reading the AJC today and the article about Johnny Hunt becoming president of the SBC. They had a really interesting take on his election. According to the writer his election was a return to the past. It just shows me how these people write from what they hear and not what they know.
If anything Frank Page’s election last year was a return to the past. I have met Dr. Page and he is a good man, a good pastor, and by all indications a good leader. I think there was a time for him.
But to say that Dr. Hunt’s election was a rejection of this generation and change is a laugh. Brian and I had the opportunity to sit down with Dr. Hunt last year and his heart for change in the convention and to hear the voice of a younger generation was astounding. His passion for seeing young leaders succeed is a clear indication of a new type of leadership. His vision of church planting and allowing that to happen in a myriad of ways is a record of accomplishment not something he just talks about. We were privileged to work and partner with FBC this year and train a few of their church planters. They were right on in lockstep with this generation. Young, cool, and ready to fight Satan on his turf. If that’s a return to the old ways, then bring back the old days. Check out JR Lee and Mark Ayers and the other guys that FBC is sending out. I only hope that future generations get it like these guys then we’ll be alright. Thanks Dr. Hunt for being a leader to a new generation.
