do you have your bread and milk…

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

they’re predicting snow for ATL tomorrow that means there will be a run on the grocery stores tonight for bread and milk. it is the weirdest thing but it happens every time – tv station announces probability of snow or ice and the shelves of grocery stores get emptied quick. now is bread and milk all we eat and drink in GA when it snows? oh yeah another must item is toilet paper. i guarantee you that tonight the shelves will be bare of these three items. stock up Walmart the snow’s acoming.

me, i like soup and crackers/cornbread with my cold days and i think we’ve got plenty of toilet paper. so i think i’m set for the bad weather ahead.

another thing about weather here is that it rarely ever happens. not that weather doesn’t happen but if weather men in ATL were prophets they would have been stoned long ago for their predictions.

is there a point to all of this? probably a stretch but what are your safety nets when you’re in a panic? what tools, person, or crutch do you grab for when it begins to fall down around you. we all have them. do you know yours? you gotta know your crutch before you rid yourself.

church planter, pastor what is it you reach for in a panic? who do you call? where do you run? i hope first you get to your knees, then the bible, then wise counsel. but here’s some wise advise i’ve learned in my many years on earth and in ministry –  make sure there’s a need before you panic, the weatherman in ATL has a lousy record. don’t create a panic when there is no need for one.

a new year…

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

back in the office after a lot of time off over the holidays. not really time off because i had a family member die and i did the funeral for the family. that is three years in a row that i have done or participated in funerals for family members. this year there were two as my son-in-law’s mother passed before Christmas and then my cousin passed before the new year.

so here are some thoughts on upcoming stuff:

Church Planting: FOUR Church Plants getting started this month: TrueNorth Church  (mytruenorth.cc) kicked it off on January 3rd in Calhoun, GA. Genesis Church,  (genesischurchorlando.com) Orlando – January 24.  Hope Church, ( hope-church.tv) Jonesboro, GA – January 31 and River Church,  (riverchurch.com) Charleston, SC – January 31.

School of Church Planting: Next class begins: February 13. go to www.westridge.com/churchplanting for more information. Four churches already enrolled for the semester.

Vision for 2010: Brian announced that World Help is requesting WRC partner to train 200 pastors in Cuba this Spring with the goal of planting 1000 churches in Cuba!  Plant 25 reproducing churches in the next 5 years. Start a Network of Churches to partner together to accomplish this task. WRC will start their first Multi-Site Campus in West Paulding in the Fall of 2010. Doing whatever it takes to reach West Atlanta/Paulding County for Christ.

gonna be a GREAT year. the History Channel has been televising all these dooms day shows for the new year. here’s a new one – the bible code says that an earthquake will destroy Los Angeles in the fall of 2010 and begin the end of the world for 2012. and GOD LAUGHED! i’ll be sixty in 2013, see you the month after the world ends. :)
