The daily fix…

Well at least weekly, or maybe 2 or 3 times…

This week should be fun. The management team here @ WRC is cloistering themselves to discuss next years budget. I am not a numbers guy when it comes to money. I have never balanced my check book and I’m 56. My wife has balanced the check book maybe 4 or 5 times in 29 years of marriage. We have checks we must have money, right? As I can recall I have bounced maybe 3 checks in my adult life. And not to throw my wife under the bus but a couple of those times were early in marriage when checks were not entered into the book. I am also one of those people that can tell you to within $5 what is in checking and savings at almost anytime. So it’s not that I mishandle money, it just doesn’t concern me much. I’ll never get rich so why bother? I owe less than I make, although not by much and I give an offering to ministry which is more than 10% if you’re wondering.

The thing is that in the 80″s I ran the day-to-day operations of a children’s home that included a budget of about $750,000 or more each year. In fact when I became the assistant director the home was about to go broke. I helped rein in expenses, set the staff schedule and got the home back in the black for the first time in several years. So I can manage a budget, just not very good at setting them. I hope I didn’t miss something and sell church planting short. So, gonna warn Kevin I’m coming for more. :)

I love the guys I get to work with. The give and take of management with 5 other guys is awesome when you leave the room after some “good” discussion and everyone is on the same page. I really like teamwork. I was never very good at individual sports. Tried tennis, liked doubles. Hated golf. Hate running, weight lifting, working out of any kind unless I can find a group of guys to work out with, the reason I’m in this shape. I liked football, baseball, and even basketball cause I got to work with teams. So pray for the team this week that we come out with God’s plan. Remember the Proverb – Man makes his plan, God directs his steps.

Speaking of being in shape. Joining Weight Watchers this week. Did WW alone last summer and dropped 35 pounds, still down about 25, but want to get to around 230 – 240, playing weight for me. Alas I’ll never be tall and skinny. The most I can hope for is tall and no one saying gosh that guy is huge. Pray for results. Need to lose about 25 pounds. I hate it that I have to pay to do something I ought to do anyway. But I am weak…see you 5 pounds lighter next week. :)
